Arbutin (Hydroquinone β-D-glucopyranoside) is a glycosylated hydroquinone extracted from the bearberry plant. Arbutin is a known inhibitor of tyrosinase, which in turn prevents the formation of melanin. Arbutin is often used as a skin-lightening agent in cosmetic products.
